Who says being a fittie is easy? Most of us are in this gym and fitness frenzy due to the platter of ideal bodies served all over our social media timelines, but the line between starving yourself and eating healthy is being blurred.
I talk to instagram popular fitness instructor Molly Strydhorst and how she got that, dare I say perfect body by the age of 19...yes, she is 19 people!!! So there are no excuses as to why you [mostly me] can't start watching the surplus amount of unhealthy snacks you intake every day, heck, every week!!! I better not say too much, the Q&A gives you the scoop on Strydhorst's tricks and daily routines, ooo and who she'd love to train if and when she had the chance ;)
Brief us on Who Molly is and what you are about.
- My name’s Molly Strydhorst and I’m 19, even though I get told I look way older. I’m currently in-between Brighton and Eastbourne living it up as a personal trainer. I’m whole-heartedly obsessed with the world of fitness, well being and fashion!
2 So young yet very influential and determined. What drives you every day to work out? What inspired you to become a personal trainer?
The drive to work out every day purely comes from seeing results from training. Once you start seeing what you’ve been working for in the mirror, it gives you a sudden motive boost to keep that up. As much as I love a tough and sweaty workout, its not everyday I head to the gym. These cold, wintery days make it so tempting to skip the gym, snuggle on the sofa with a cuppa watching endless episodes of the kardashians (I am very guilty of this). From the start of my fitness journey to where I am now years later, I’ve taught myself what to eat and how to train in order to get my goal bod. I found myself reaching my goal pretty quickly, using my own motivation and knowledge. So from all of this, I thought why not use it to help push others! That’s the stage where I knuckled down and got myself qualified, insured and got on it! Being a PT is extremely rewarding, however like any job, it can be tough.
3 Your Instagram tells me a lot, what aesthetic do you think you have going on? It seems to be a mixture of fashion, modelling and healthy living. Am I right?
You sound about right! When it comes to instagram, I try to stray away from the whole “fitness uploads”. I may be selling myself as this gym-obsessed gal but that’s not the case. I’m deeply into styling, fashion and interior design and use instagram to show this. Its super difficult not to throw on a pair of gym leggings and trainers to run errands, but on my days off I tend to dress up (even if it’s for a trip to Sainsburys…).
4 If you could train anyone, celebrity or otherwise, who would it be and why?
Ooooh that’s such a tough one, I have so many! The first that comes to my head is Khloe Kardashian. Mainly just because I’ve been loving her gym motivation recently, she’s so driven. Another one would have to be drake, just so I can say I’ve trained drizzy lol.
5 Any tips on how to start on a journey of becoming a ‘fitty’ like you? Any diet? What food or drinks to avoid?
The best mindset to set yourself up on is that in a year’s time, you will wish you started now. I constantly hear people say they want to start something, a year passes and it was never even tried! Getting your dream bod wont happen over night, patience is needed to get you there, and the first few months will be difficult. Even my motivation dries up sometimes, but I look for new music (upbeat R&B and trap are my go-to gym genre’s) to boost my drive, it works wonders and gets those extra 5 reps in.
When it comes to diets, I just don’t believe in them, they get horribly boring and repetitive. The best thing to do is simply listen to your body; if you are hungry, eat. It’s also important, however, to know what you’re putting in your body and the outcome. Educating yourself on the basics of nutrition is essential. Give yourself one day in the week to eat whatever you want, but don’t let that slip! Avoid food and drink high in saturated fat and sugar. After a while of not consuming them, your body will naturally forget that craving. Keeping active, patient and healthy will get you to your goals before you know it!
